Clean beauty is beauty without compromise. These formulas answer consumer demand for ingredient focused, safe skincare that respects skin health. But what is clean beauty? At first glance, it may seem like it is simply a beautifying cleanser, but it goes much further than that!

Clean Beauty Defined
The term “clean beauty” applies to all personal care products used to beautify the skin and hair. While the no-no list is not clearly defined, being green and cruelty-free are paramount tenets of clean beauty products. Harming the environment or animals through unsustainable sourcing or animal testing is not tolerated by this growing health-conscious movement. A clean beauty product may or may not bear the USDA organic seal that mandates 95% organic material, which is not necessarily bad. For example, Pevonia uses organic extracts extensively in our formulations, but as we incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies to increase product penetration and efficacy, our natural skin care products do not bear this label. That’s why it is essential to look beyond labels and ingredient lists when shopping for skincare.

Clean Skincare Explained
As people’s awareness about caring for the planet and themselves has evolved, so have the philosophies and means to achieve optimal skin health and beauty. We’re grateful that the skincare world has come a long way from the days of beauty at any cost, and people are no longer willing to disregard the potential pitfalls discovered through this momentous arc of progress. The evolution from harsh chemicals to natural and organic botanicals and fruit extracts was a refreshing change. Unfortunately, lack of universal standards, regulations, proper labeling, and misuse of terms caused this wholesome approach to lose its credibility. As some of these better-for-you, “natural”, and “organic” products contained ingredients that weren’t actually natural, expired quickly, or failed to produce the healthier, more beautiful skin they promised, beauty enthusiasts became frustrated with nothing to show for their efforts. This disenchantment gave rise to clean skincare products rewriting the meaning of safe, effective skincare.

How Pevonia Meets the Standards of Clean Skincare:

Non-toxic: Pevonia skin and body care products refrain from Parabens, Sulfates, Mineral Oil, Alcohol, Urea, PABA, Lanolin, Formaldehyde, and Artificial Colors, Dyes, and Fragrances found to be detrimental to our health and wellness. We additionally exclude Coal Tar, Insoluble Plastic Microbeads, Hydroquinone, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Oxybenzone, Phthalates, Triclosan, and more. Sulfates and Alcohols strip the skin of natural moisture and oils, while Mineral Oil is comedogenic and so occlusive that it thins the skin over time, backfiring on its aim to strengthen the skin barrier. Parabens (preservatives), Phthalates (fragrance binders), and Oxybenzone can trigger irritation, rashes, and allergic reactions and negatively disrupt the body’s hormones. Parabens and Formaldehyde (preservatives) are carcinogenic, with Formaldehyde also being an irritant to the skin and respiratory system. All our natural skin cleansers refrain from drying sulfates. That means no Sodium Laurel Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate, harsh surfactants that dry and strip the skin. Instead, Pevonia uses natural cleansing agents to deliver a safe, effective cleanse.

Step 2: Toning
Unlike Alcohol-based toners that strip the skin of precious oils, our Alcohol-Free toners are called Lotions, as they contain actives that are beneficial for the skin. Our top-selling, vegan Sensitive Skin Lotion and RS2 Gentle Lotion clear away harsh tap water to complete the cleanse, are suitable for all skin types, and calm temperamental complexions.

Step 3: Treating
All skin types can benefit from our vegan Vitaminic Concentrate, ‘C’ Complexe with Oxyzomes, and RS2 Concentrate, which provide protective defense against free radical damage that leads to lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and sagging.
