How to Properly Apply Oils, Serums and Concentrates

Posted by Pevonia Marketing on 1st Apr 2022

Serums, concentrates and oils, oh my! Oh my is right, as these products are where the real skincare magic happens! To get the most benefit out of these beauty boosters, we'll show you the best way how to apply each of these action-packed products.

Understanding oils, serums and concentrates
The Pevonia serum collection includes a wide range of intensifiers, concentrates, complexes and spot treatments. But don’t let the various names confuse you. Each of these corrective natural skin care products is designed to proactively change your skin. Serums contain high concentrations of carefully selected active ingredients that target specific concerns. To help our serums penetrate deeply and achieve desired results, we use ingredients that are compatible with the skin. But we don’t stop there! We formulate serums with advanced technologies and delivery systems that reduce molecule size and encourage the best absorption possible. Most of our formulas are water-based, whereas our face oils are enriched with nutrient-rich oils. This distinction is the first clue to tell you when to use what.

It’s all in the prep
Before jumping into these treatment-oriented steps, it is essential to prep your skin. For maximum results, wash your face and neck with a natural skin cleanser, followed by an alcohol-free toner to complete your cleanse.  Now, your skin is ready to receive its well-deserved intensive care! Remember to exfoliate a couple times a week to remove dead skin cells and amplify the effects of serums and oils.

Choose the serum that’s right for you
Just because a popular formula is trending in your social media feed doesn’t mean it’s right for you. Honor your skin type and treat it with a natural skin care serum that matches your individual skin type and concerns.  Plagued by redness, irritation or occasional breakouts? The Pevonia Propolis Concentrate serum will soothe and keep bacteria in check.

How to apply skin serum
Now that you have selected your serum, and prepped your skin, the next question is when to use your serum and how. The rule of thumb for product usage is to apply your serum first, then follow with a skin care cream or face oil to seal it in. Next, dispense one to two pumps to your fingertips and apply to your face and neck. Lightly massage into your skin and repeat morning and night. No need to warm between palms or press into the skin with fingers, as we’ve taken care of ensuring the serums will penetrate on their own.

It is essential to layer your serum with a moisturizer to immediately lock in its treatment goodness and prevent product and moisture evaporation. Oily and combination skin types may choose to proceed directly to sun protection in the daytime.

How to incorporate face oils
Face oils are a wonderful thirst-quenching addition to skincare routines. If your skin is especially dry, use 3 to 5 drops of Pevonia face oil in the evening in place of your preferred moisturizer. You can also apply face oils before your skin care cream or layer on top for added defense against dryness. Be sure to select mineral oil-free formulas, like our Vitaminic Concentrate and De-Stress Escape Aromatic Oil. Both use moisturizing Safflower Seed Oil and Squalane due to their high essential fatty acid content and affinity with our skin.

The De-Stress Escape Aromatic Oil employs calming Lavender, Chamomile and Rose Essential Oils for their aromatherapy benefits. It may also be applied to temples, behind ears, and inside wrists, for anyone seeking spa-like relaxation. Or try the Vitaminic Concentrate, which harnesses antioxidant-rich Mandarin Essential Oil for a smoother, glowing complexion.

Serum, concentrate and face oil best practices
Patience is an important component of corrective skincare. Chances are, what you see today in your skin took years to appear and needs ample time to allow your products to work their magic. Whatever formulas you choose, stick with them for no less than two to three months of daily application to allow them to do their job!

As most of us experience irritation and breakouts on occasion, keep the top-selling Pevonia Propolis Concentrate Serum on hand to quickly come to your skin’s rescue. But if you have flushing, redness, heat and bumps, take advantage of our soothing Pevonia RS2 Concentrate for rosacea-prone skin. Another excellent product to keep in your skincare “first aid” kit is the Pevonia acne Spot Treatment. It will put blemishes on notice and send them packing stat!

Got multiple concerns? No problem. You can use a serum in the morning to treat one issue and a different formula at night to treat another. A favorite pairing is to use a Vitamin C serum for UV and free radical protection in the morning and use a Retinol formula at night for optimal repair. Think of your serum as a daily version of professional Pevonia treatments that you can do at home. Like all good things, consistency and patience will reward you with beautiful skin.
