About Dry Skin
By Kendall Weatherman, Licensed Esthetician

Dry skin is the one of the most common skin types. Dry skin will look and feel tight and is often accompanied by discomfort, itchiness, flakiness and red or dull appearance. Dry skin is simply skin that lacks oil.

While dry skin can be dehydrated too, it is not to be confused with skin that is dehydrated. Dehydration is actually a condition, versus a skin type wherein the skin lacks water, not oil. Dry skin is also known as xerosis.

Dry skin can be caused by a number of factors. Dry skin is a skin type that someone is born with. So there is a genetic component to dry skin. It is mainly due to a lack of oil production in the skin.

As we age, changes in hormone levels, usually a drop in estrogen, can cause a reduction in oil production that makes dryness appear as well. Dry skin is a common skin condition in the elderly due to the thinning of the outer layer of the skin (epidermis), which causes an increases water loss.

Dryness can also occur due to certain external factors. Use of harsh soaps, products that contain alcohol, perfumes, dyes, or retinoids can definitely exacerbate dry skin. Underusing moisturizer can also contribute to this tight skin type. Taking long, hot showers, and exposure to heating and air conditioning or cold, harsh weather also dry out skin.

Concentrates, also known as serums, can quickly ease discomfort, revitalize, nourish and moisturize. Choose one with Squalane to infuse dry skin with much needed lipids as it resembles oils in the skin and therefore, is highly compatible with the human body.

Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Squalane, Cyclomethicone, Tocopherol (Vit. E), Retinyl Palmitate (Vit. A), Azulene, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil.
In the evening, after cleansing and toning, apply 3 to 5 drops of this oil all over your face and neck avoiding the eye area. Massage gently. For best results, use in the morning in conjunction with the Rejuvenating Dry Skin Cream.
