About Dry Skin
By Kendall Weatherman, Licensed Esthetician

Dry skin is the one of the most common skin types. Dry skin will look and feel tight and is often accompanied by discomfort, itchiness, flakiness and red or dull appearance. Dry skin is simply skin that lacks oil.

While dry skin can be dehydrated too, it is not to be confused with skin that is dehydrated. Dehydration is actually a condition, versus a skin type wherein the skin lacks water, not oil. Dry skin is also known as xerosis.

Dry skin can be caused by a number of factors. Dry skin is a skin type that someone is born with. So there is a genetic component to dry skin. It is mainly due to a lack of oil production in the skin.

As we age, changes in hormone levels, usually a drop in estrogen, can cause a reduction in oil production that makes dryness appear as well. Dry skin is a common skin condition in the elderly due to the thinning of the outer layer of the skin (epidermis), which causes an increases water loss.

Dryness can also occur due to certain external factors. Use of harsh soaps, products that contain alcohol, perfumes, dyes, or retinoids can definitely exacerbate dry skin. Underusing moisturizer can also contribute to this tight skin type. Taking long, hot showers, and exposure to heating and air conditioning or cold, harsh weather also dry out skin.

For extremely stubborn dry skin, masking can be quite helpful. Just once or twice a week use a mask rich in Safflower Oil, Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E to see and feel your dryness begin to ease.

Water (Aqua), Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Beta-Carotene, Tocopherol (Vit. E), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit. E), Titanium Dioxide, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Citrate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol.
After cleansing and toning, blot the skin dry and proceed with the Enzymo-Sphérides® Peeling Cream. Next, apply a thin layer of this mask all over your face and neck. Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Reapply the Dry Skin Lotion followed by the Rejuvenating Dry Skin Cream. Use once or twice a week.
